People who have been in and out of Mangalore in the last 5 to 6 years will have surely seen the way Mangalore has been developing with the concrete roads being built inside the city and the National Highway being widened into a 4 lane and a couple of flyovers being built at some of the junctions where in it is needed for ex: Kottara Chowki, Kuntikan Junction, Nanthoor, Surathkal, and one Near B.C.Road. Out of these 5 only 1 of the flyover has been completed which is the one at Kuntikan Junction, rest 3 are on the process of completeion, wheres athe one at nanthoor was waiting for the land acquisition and other minor requirements like the electricity lines being moved and such, which has never happened due to which the recent news doing the rounds in the papers is that the flyover at Nanthoor is cancelled and will not be built by the current project holder Irkon until and unless the land acquisition and other minor works are completed.

Now as understood by the word land acquisition, it just means that the people in and around that particular place where the proposed flyover is supposed to be built are protesting that the land marked for acquisition is too much and they have to take less land than what has been marked. Now why did this people wait for so long to start protesting, why didnt they start protesting when the land was being marked for acquisition, Are these people not the ones who sit at home and start discussing that mangalore roads are bad and there is too much traffic now and there is a traffic jam in every nook and corner of mangalore. Dont these people understand that by building a flyover it is just going to make the traffic a little smoother and cause less traffic jam at Nanthoor junction. Why do the same people who accuse the people in power of not helping for development of the city protest against the development when the government thinks of a better way of helping solve people’s problems.

It also holds true for the places where the concrete roads are being built, when the roads were so bad that you could not commute through those roads people used to blame the municipal corporation and worse it was when they used to say that the BJP government/Local Body is not doing anything to repair the roads, and now when the concrete roads are being built they cannot wait patiently and are accusing the Local body/government again that there is a lot of dust on the roads and you cannot commute through these roads. Why are people against development when it starts to happen when the same people wait for development to happen when it is not happening?
